2016 VAFW Press Release

Splash Entertainment Group is thrilled to once again host a new season of events, presentations, and designer runway shows representing the best in local, regional and international talent at VA Fashion Week Norfolk on April 19-24, 2016. Designers will showcase their work to an audience of industry experts, media, and fashionistas, along with a global audience, tuning in via video and social media.

VAFW 2016 opens with an invitation only reception at Michael Copon Studios in downtown Norfolk. The event will feature a fashion installation showcasing local designers, a meet and greet with actor/director Michael Copon as well as the VA Fashion Week designers, models and production team.

On Thursday April 21, designer Mikasa La'Charles will present her collection at Work/Release in the Neon district.

Friday, April 22 is Earthday and VA Fashion Week and Cozy Pure Organic Bedding will be presenting the first 'Project Earthday' design competition where designers are challenged to create a complete fashion look from a kit of discarded, recycled and otherwise trash materials. This show will be at the Venue on 35th in the Park Place neighborhood of Norfolk. Weather permitting the Earthday celebration and runway presentation will be outdoors.

On Saturday VA Fashion Week heads to O'Connor Brewing Co for a fashion installation at 'Crafted' the indie arts and crafts festival.

Sunday April 24th will be the main event: 'Animal Instinct' our day of designers in partnership with the Norfolk SPCA. Headlining designers include April Spring who will return to VA Fashion Week after a 5 year absence as her popular 'Foxers' brand moved its headquarters from Norfolk to Atlanta in 2011. Another special guest is actor/artist/designer Daphne Maxwell Reid, best known for her role as 'Aunt Viv' on the popular TV series Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

Bridal designer Greta Kay will close out the evening with a collection of couture wedding gowns. We’ll also showcase day to evening looks from ETAMIB Couture by Gwendolyn Wilson, Lipgloss and Stilettos by Leslie Lucas Thompson, Brehon Williams and Azi Blas. Global influences abound with designers Gayatri & Rati of Yatra Collection from Inda, and Sehar Peerzada of Urban Masala from Pakistan. We will have menswear from popular local urban brand Reckless by Mario Daughtry and from Lache' Supply & Co. by Jessica Lache' Fulks. Jessica recently showed to rave reviews at Charleston Fashion Week and won both judges and peoples choice as favorite designer for the night. Also new to VA Fashion Week are designers Melissa Gumley of Norfolk with her collection ADHD Driven and Tabitha Sewer of Williamsburg with her line TJ Sewer.

In addition VAFW will feature adorable dogs and cats from the Norfolk SPCA and will have a silent auction benefitting the SPCA no-kill shelter. Musical guests will include popular award winning artist K'Bana Blaq and a special presentation 'Queens of the Catwalk'.
